NOTICE OF COUNTY TAX FREEZE In November of 2022, the voters passed a property tax freeze for the Hunt County portion on homeowners who are over 65 or disabled. The freeze applies only to your property that is qualified for a homestead exemption. *The freeze amount will be the lower of your 2022 county taxes versus 2023 county taxes. The County Commissioners Court will adopt the 2023 tax rate this fall. Due to this, the 2023 Notice of Appraised Value does not indicate a freeze for the Hunt County. Have You Inherited Your Home? Heir Property Homestead Exemption Information Hunt Memorial Hospital District Increases Exemption Amount for Over-65 & Disabled Persons Hunt Memorial Hospital District has voted to increase the exemption amount for the over-65 exemption. The local option exemption was increased from $20,000 to $30,000. It was also voted to include this exemption amount for disabled individuals. Homeowners who already qualify for and are receiving the over 65 or disabled person exemption from the school district do NOT need to take any action or complete a new application. If you are age 65 or over or disabled and are not currently receiving an exemption from the school district, you MUST file an application with the Hunt CAD. The city has approved a local option homestead exemption of 10% of the homesite value of the property. Homeowners who already qualify for the school district homestead exemption do not need to file a new application for the city exemption. The appraisal district will apply the 10% exemption to the city taxes automatically for those already qualified. New homeowners must make a one-time application to receive the exemption. This benefit puts a ceiling on the dollar amount of property taxes you pay each year to the City of Caddo Mills. This does not freeze the assessed value or the tax rate. If the city taxes decrease, the amount you owe can still decrease. Homeowners who already qualify for and are receiving the over 65 exemption or disabled person exemption from the Caddo Mills ISD do NOT need to take any action or complete a new application. If you are age 65 or over or disabled and are not currently receiving the over 65 or disabled person exemption from the Caddo Mills ISD, you MUST file an application with the Hunt CAD.
