January 1 – Closed Information regarding the newly adopted City of Greenville Over-65 Tax Limitation: The City of Greenville now offers a tax limitation/ceiling for homeowners age 65 or older on their residential homestead property. This benefit puts a ceiling on the dollar amount of property taxes you pay each year to the City of Greenville. This does not freeze the assessed value or the tax rate. If the city taxes decrease, the amount you owe can still decrease. Homeowners who already qualify for and are receiving the over 65 exemption from the Greenville ISD do NOT need to take any action or complete a new application. If you are age 65 or over and are not currently receiving the over 65 exemption from the Greenville ISD, you MUST file an application with the Hunt CAD. If you receive a letter in the mail requesting a fee to file your homestead application, please contact the Hunt County Appraisal District directly to file your application at no cost.
